After missing out on Dominik Szoboszlai Newcastle United must now move on and up their efforts to land Juventus star Federico Chiesa.
It’s never nice to see one of your club’s alleged top targets turn you down and move elsewhere, but there are always other options. While not a like-for-like replacement, Newcastle should now double their efforts to sign Federico Chiesa from Juventus after missing out on Dominik Szoboszlai.
Chiesa is more of a left-winger, but he can play on the right as well as a second striker/Number 10 which is where Szoboszlai would likely have played if Newcastle could have convinced him to join.
Newcastle need more attacking options all across the front three
Eddie Howe is looking for more attacking options across the front three and Federico Chiesa, while being a different proposition to James Maddison or Szoboszlai, would be no less of a fantastic signing.
It was just a couple of days ago that Newcastle were reported to have made contact over a move for the Italian ‘superstar‘ who could leave Juventus for around €60million (£52million), so now that we’re two preferred options down, the powers that be should be making sure it doesn’t happen a third time.

Ironically it is once again Liverpool who pose the biggest threat to our bid for Chiesa, but perhaps after landing Szoboszlai their interest in Chiesa may have cooled. Although they do need several midfielders this summer so maybe not.
Chiesa’s experience in the CL will be invaluable to Newcastle
As well as impressing at club level, 25-year-old Chiesa has over 40 caps for Italy along with four goals. He’s got plenty of Champions League experience too, and that’s exactly what we’re looking for this summer as we head back to that famous competition for the first time in 20 years.

While I’m not panicking just yet as it’s very early in the transfer window, I, like all Newcastle fans, were hoping for more business to be done early this summer, but it’s never that easy and no fans know that better than ours.
We’re still a long way off hitting that big red panic button, but the more deals we see slip through our fingers the closer our hands get to that button.
