Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe will be working hard on picking through the bones of Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Brighton.

The 3-1 defeat is the third defeat on the bounce for Newcastle and while far from being the end of the world, there is definitely a thought that changes need to be made to try and get the team back on track.

Eddie Howe has started with record signing Alexander Isak in each of the this season’s four games, but it could be time to let Callum Wilson off the chain.

When Wilson gets frustrated on the bench, goals follow

Wilson is starting to get frustrated at his lack of game time and one thing that usually comes from an angry Wilson is goals.

The 31-year-old came off the bench to grab the consolation goal against the Seagulls on Saturday with a beautifully taken finish.

Now it’s time for the £20million signing from Bournemouth to lead the line from the start.

Both he and Isak have two goals in four appearances this season but Isak’s both came in the opening day win over Aston Villa whereas Wilson got one in that game and the one on Saturday.

When you look at the minutes per goal, it’s clear why Eddie Howe should give Wilson the nod. Isak has played 280 minutes over Wilson’s 96 yet both have the same amount of goals.

Howe should play Isak and Wilson together against Brentford

Eddie Howe doesn’t necessarily need to drop Isak to facilitate playing Wilson as the two have proven to be a deadly partnership.

For me, if Miguel Almiron is dropped with Anthony Gordon drafted to the right, Isak can play on the left with Wilson through the middle which could solve the issue of creativity in the side.

Then Howe just needs to work on the midfield three and patch up his defence which now face a race against time to be fit for the Brentford fixture in two weeks.
