Jacob Ramsey will be desperate to prove Eddie Howe right when Newcastle United face Fulham on Saturday.
The 24-year-old made just his fourth Toon appearance on Tuesday night in Newcastle United’s win over Benfica, starting in midfield in place of Joelinton.
It was Jacob Ramsey’s second ever Newcastle United start since arriving from Aston Villa, having seen the start of his career on Tyneside blighted by injury.
He has not been able to hit the ground running, but the early signs are promising. However, Eddie Howe is adamant that Ramsey can offer a lot more.

Eddie Howe says ‘the best is yet to come’ from Jacob Ramsey
Speaking ahead of Newcastle United vs Fulham, Eddie Howe was asked about Ramsey’s performance in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The Newcastle United manager was happy with what he saw, before laying down the gauntlet for the £43million summer signing.
“Really pleased for JJ because the last thing you want to do at a new club is pick up an injury early on,” he said, via the club’s official website.
“You want to show your qualities and what you can bring to the team. He had a period away, worked hard and has come back to full fitness.
“I’ve been impressed, but I still feel there’s so much more to come physically and technically. I think he’s got outstanding technical qualities. Very intelligent player. I think the best is yet to come, but certainly a positive impression.”
Jacob Ramsey can only prove Eddie Howe right with a run in the Newcastle United starting XI
The best certainly is yet to come from Ramsey, but that will only happen if he is given a chance to prove himself in the Newcastle United starting XI.
Many have argued that Newcastle United have the Premier League’s best midfield in Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton. However, the latter’s limitations on the ball have threatened that debate in games when the Magpies are more dominant.
Howe needs more craft and technical ability in possession in certain fixtures, which is a quality that Ramsey has over Joelinton.
For Ramsey to truly play his best football in black and white, he needs to find his rhythm. That will only come from consistent minutes. Therefore, it is vital that Howe gives Ramsey the chance to prove him right by giving him an extended run in the starting lineup.
That should be the case on Saturday, with Ramsey named in Geordie Boot Boys’ predicted Newcastle United XI to face Fulham. He deserves to retain his place in the side, despite Howe’s temptation to recall Joelinton.
Ramsey has the potential to be a special player for the Magpies, and now is the moment he should truly be unleashed.
