Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has a big decision to make ahead of Sunday’s game against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Magpies return to action after the international break this weekend, as they head to Molineux to take on Gary O’Neil’s side.

A lot of Newcastle United‘s international players have done well, with Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon shining for Sweden and England respectively. Elsewhere, Sandro Tonali built up his match sharpness with two 90 minute displays for Italy.

At under-21 level, Lewis Hall impressed for England on Monday night. He got two assists in the Three Lions’ 4-1 win over Austria, and Newcastle fans were delighted to see Hall play so well.

Lloyd Kelly has started Newcastle’s last two Premier League games at left-back, and did very well in the 2-1 win over Tottenham.

The 25-year-old provided an excellent assist for Harvey Barnes, while Gabby Agbonlahor named Kelly in his team of the week.

It has been a steady start to his Newcastle United career, and he is certainly a safer option at left-back. He is a centre-back by trade, and is much more defensively sound than Hall.

And given the fact he has been training with Newcastle while Hall has been on international duty, Howe may opt to stick with Kelly in the starting XI.

That might not go down well with some members of the Toon Army, who will be keen to see Hall back in the team after doing so well for England.

Eddie Howe might be keen to play it safe away from home

If Newcastle were playing at St James’ Park, Howe might be more inclined to thrust Hall back into the starting XI.

However, with Sunday’s game taking place at Molineux, it feels more likely that Newcastle will set up to be a bit more solid and difficult to beat. In that respect, Kelly is a better option to start at left-back.

But Hall, who was ‘outstanding’ towards the end of last season, should feature in some capacity, and he is a great option to bring off the bench if Newcastle need an injection of positivity in the second half.
