Steve Bruce has privately stated that Hamza Choudhury could transform Newcastle’s midfield, as per the Athletic.
Bruce once again tried to sign the Leicester midfielder, 23, on loan during the summer.
Once again, the attempts proved futile and the report explains how highly Bruce rates Choudhury.
The obvious question which springs to mind is: why? Let’s have a look at what we’ve seen from Choudhury in his career so far.

Why does Bruce rate Choudhury so highly?
The midfielder has 47 Premier League appearances to his name so far in his career.
Leicester don’t have the biggest squad in the Premier League but he finds himself way down the pecking order.
That’s despite working under a manager in Brendan Rodgers, who is a wonderful developer of young players.
Choudhury hasn’t pulled up many trees for Leicester and it’s not clear why Bruce thinks he could have such a transformative impact at Newcastle.

Choudhury has many senior red cards as goals (two) in his senior club career.
And he admitted he let England Under 21s down by getting sent off in the European Championship group stage loss to France.
There might well be a player in there; but so far there’s not one who has shaken nagging doubts about his discipline or forced his way into a Premier League starting XI on a regular basis.
Bruce might be seeing something Rodgers has missed, but would Choudhury really transform Newcastle’s midfield? The jury is still very much out.
