Anthony Gordon is returning to Everton this weekend as Newcastle United head to Goodison Park.

The Magpies face the Toffees in the Premier League on Saturday night, as the Everton faithful prepare to welcome Anthony Gordon back to Merseyside.

On his last visit to Goodison Park, Gordon was mocked by the Everton fans. It was a difficult night for the 23-year-old, as a depleted Newcastle United team lost 3-0 to Sean Dyche’s side.

Since leaving Everton and signing for Newcastle United, Gordon has not had much to celebrate against his former side. On his first return, he only played a couple of minutes off the bench as Eddie Howe’s side won 4-1 as they continued their charge towards the Champions League.

Last season’s trip to the North West was the aforementioned 3-0 defeat, while the clash at St James’ Park also did not go to plan for Gordon. He was suspended, after receiving a red card during Newcastle’s 4-3 win over West Ham United just days before.

Gordon will hope to finally make an impact at the expense of his former employer, and he now knows exactly where he will be playing on Saturday night.

Alexander Isak not included in Sweden squad

Ahead of the upcoming international break, Sweden have announced their squad for Nations League games against Slovakia and Estonia.

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is absent, with the 25-year-old currently nursing a broken toe.

Eddie Howe had stated that Isak was a doubt to face Everton, but did not rule the striker out of the game at Goodison Park.

However, the fact he is not in the Sweden squad all but confirms that he will not feature against the Toffees on Saturday night, as this latest injury issue continues to plague him.

Anthony Gordon will be up front for Newcastle against Everton

With Isak set to miss out, it has become very clear where Gordon will be playing on Saturday. He will be up front for Newcastle, just like he was against Manchester City.

Gordon was praised for his efforts as a striker, and even netted the decisive equaliser as Newcastle secured a well deserved point against Pep Guardiola’s team.

The England international has once again proven that he is more than capable of playing centrally, even if Howe is adamant that Gordon’s best position is on the left.

Who will join Gordon in attack for Newcastle

But that position will be occupied by Harvey Barnes, who is Newcastle’s top scorer so far this season with three goals.

He started against Wimbledon on Tuesday night, but Howe decided to substitute Barnes at half time of the Carabao Cup contest. However, that was a pre-planned substitution rather than because of poor performance or injury.

On the opposite flank, Jacob Murphy will likely start. He should be fresh for the trip to Goodison Park, after not featuring during the 1-0 win over Wimbledon.
