The Anthony Gordon redemption arc is well and truly in motion, but he’s still got a long way to go before he’s fully back to his best.
Prior to this past week, we had not seen an Anthony Gordon league goal since January. Now, he’s got two in two and looks full of confidence once more.
Eddie Howe named Anthony Gordon Newcastle’s best player vs Burnley, here’s why he’s wrong
Look at these Bruno stats 😍
Eddie Howe even said Gordon was the best player on the pitch against Burnley — although we’d say Bruno Guimaraes was even better.
It’s great progress for a player who had fallen down the pecking order at Newcastle United of late, but his biggest test is still to come this week.

Penalties aren’t enough, Anthony Gordon must step up again this week
Newcastle fans said Gordon was back close to his best in midweek against Spurs, and he’s put in another strong showing against Burnley this weekend.
It now looks like the winger will be starting against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Wednesday night. However, we still need to see more from him.
Scoring two penalties, albeit very good ones, is not enough to suggest that Gordon is at the top of his game right now.
He needs to perform at the highest level again in the Champions League, as he has done many times before. With Newcastle facing elimination from the competition, it will be down to Gordon to carry them through an incredibly tricky away tie against a strong German side.
After that, it’s the big Tyne-Wear derby, another occasion in which Gordon will either sink or swim. Do the latter, and he could cap an incredible week at Newcastle.

Newcastle fans will embrace Anthony Gordon entirely if he helps defeat Sunderland
We have waited since 2016 for another meeting between Newcastle and Sunderland. Hopefully it’s worth the wait, and we’re sure the atmosphere at the Stadium of Light will be electric (pardon the pun).
It’s the kind of game where heroes are born and villains are created. If Gordon can bag another goal there — especially a winning one — he will well and truly write himself into the Newcastle United history books.
Name the player if you can!
These are my stats from the win over Burnley, but who am I?
We already know Gordon thrives in games against the Big Six. Those massive occasions are rarely daunting for the winger, and he will need to step up against Sunderland to continue his impressive revival.
Shrink there, though, and the Newcastle fans will not let Gordon forget it.
