Newcastle United picked up one of their best results of the season so far on Friday evening as they beat Crystal Palace 2-0 at Selhurst Park.
The Magpies should be over the moon with the result and their performance as they put in the perfect showing away from home, soaking up pressure before striking twice late on.
However, one man stole all of the headlines, and deservedly so.
That man was Joelinton.
The Brazilian has often been criticised for his performances in a Newcastle shirt, but he deserves credit for how well he played against the Eagles.
Joelinton put in the best performance we’ve seen from a Newcastle player this season, at least according to WhoScored’s match ratings as he scored a 9.42 out of 10, with Karl Darlow’s 9.34 away at Tottenham ranking second.
It’s hard to argue that Joelinton wasn’t the man of the match on Friday. He was just as effective going forward as he was at the back, making four tackles and having seven shots.
His work all paid off in the end as he single-handedly won the game for Newcastle late on, scoring and assisting the Tyneside outfit’s two goals.
Joelinton’s link-up with Callum Wilson was praised by the fans, and perhaps this is just a sign of things to come from the striker.
Hopefully, this sort of form can continue and the £40 million forward can begin proving that he’s worth the huge fee that was paid for him last summer.
