£30m player set for medical, and it could be good news for Newcastle United

Newcastle United will be hoping they are about to be given a boost in their bid to sign Joao Pedro from Brighton.

The 23-year-old has emerged as one of the Magpies’ top targets this summer in the aftermath of Bryan Mbeumo being too expensive.

Newcastle could have that problem with Pedro too, but their pursuit remains ongoing. Fortunately for Eddie Howe, it has been reported that Pedro is open to joining Newcastle this summer.

It will likely come down to the price and whether Brighton are willing to sell. Newcastle will have their fingers crossed that the Seagulls are happy to let Pedro go, and that could be influenced by another forward arriving at the Amex Stadium.

Brighton close to signing Joao Pedro’s replacement

Brighton will need to replace Pedro, and they could be on the brink of doing that already.

According to the Athletic, Charalampos Kostoulas is set to have a medical before joining Brighton in a deal worth around £30million.

The report adds that the 18-year-old Olympiacos striker will sign a five-year deal on the south coast.

It remains to be seen if Kostoulas’ looming arrival will open the door for Pedro to leave, but Newcastle United will hope that proves to be the case.

More encouragement in Newcastle United’s pursuit of Pedro

If Kostoulas is considered a direct replacement for Pedro, it would only strengthen Newcastle’s chances of signing the Brazilian attacker.

The Magpies are also boosted by what happened towards the end of the season at the Amex, with Pedro involved in a training ground bust-up with teammate Jan Paul van Hecke.

Following the incident, Geordie Boot Boys have been told that Pedro is unsettled at Brighton and that his representatives are trying to find him a new club.

That could lead him to Newcastle United, where Pedro would get to play alongside fellow Brazilians Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton.

Despite the coming together between Pedro and Van Hecke, Toon officials must have no concerns about Pedro’s attitude. If they did, they simply would not be pursuing him.
