According to the Athletic, Aris Thessaloniki have proposed a loan deal for Newcastle forward Yoshinori Muto.

On Sunday evening, a report emerged stating that the Greek side were in advanced talks about signing the 29-year-old.

This news was celebrated by some Toon fans, who are happy to see Muto leave the club this summer.

The striker joined the Magpies in 2018, costing £9.5million from Mainz. Sadly, he’s been an absolute waste of money. In total he’s scored just two goals for Newcastle.

He spent last season on loan at Eibar, and he didn’t do much better in Spain. Muto and his temporary teammates suffered relegation from La Liga.

Now it looks like a move to Greece could be on the cards. However, the final details are seemingly yet to be decided.

Will Yoshinori Muto leave Newcastle on loan or permanently?

When reports first emerged about Muto’s possible move to Greece, it was unclear whether it would be a loan deal or a permanent move.

But the Athletic have provided a bit more clarity. They claim that Aris proposed a loan deal, and are prepared to cover around 40% of Muto’s wages.

That would equate to just over £20,000, with Muto reportedly earning £54,000 at Newcastle.

Of course, the Magpies would prefer a permanent exit. His contract at St James’ Park expires next summer, and the club want to get him off the wage bill completely.

The Athletic add that Newcastle may accept a nominal fee from Aris to let him go permanently. Then it would be up to the player to decide whether he’s going to accept a huge wage deduction despite still having one year left on a £54,000-a-week contract.

Aris are reportedly optimistic about completing a deal, and here’s hoping they do. Muto has been nothing short of disappointing at Newcastle, and needs to leave this summer.
