Yoshinori Muto has proven to be a huge waste of money at Newcastle United, and they must sell him before it’s too late.
The forward joined the club in 2018, as Rafa Benitez looked to replace Dwight Gayle who had joined West Brom on loan.
The Magpies paid a big fee for Muto, costing £9.5million from Mainz.
It was an expensive transfer, and one that hasn’t been worth it at all.
Only one game comes to mind when you think of positive performances from Muto – Manchester United away in 2018.

He started up front at Old Trafford, and scored his first ever Premier League goal. As it stands, it’s his only league goal for the Magpies.
Muto played brilliantly that night, but was unable to kick on.
In total, Muto has played just 28 times in all competitions in Magpies. With two goals to his name, he’s the found the net once ever 14 games on average.
He’s had limited opportunities, playing even less once Steve Bruce was appointed.
Muto was allowed to leave the club last summer, joining Eibar on loan.
Sadly, he continued to struggle in Spain. He managed just one La Liga goal, with Eibar finishing rock bottom.
While they’ll be playing in the second tier of Spanish football, Muto is set to return to St James’ Park. However, he shouldn’t be there long.

Yoshinori Muto needs to be sold by Newcastle before next summer
When Muto arrived at the club, he signed a four-year deal. That contract will expire next summer.
Therefore, this transfer window will be one of Newcastle’s last chances to recoup any cash.
It’s clear that Muto has no future with the Magpies. The fact he was allowed to go out on loan says as much.
But this summer he needs to leave permanently. We need to get some money back to ensure this transfer wasn’t a total disaster.
We can’t have another Henri Saivet on our hands. The midfielder hasn’t played in the Premier League since he scored a shock goal against West Ham in 2017.

He’s spent the past two seasons collecting a wage, not even going out on loan. Saivet’s been a drain on the club’s resources, and will go down as one of our worst ever signings when his contract expires this summer.
We can’t afford to go down the same path with Muto. Even if he leaves for a fraction of the fee he cost in 2018, we simply have to get him off the books.
According to Spotrac, Muto is one of the club’s best paid players, earning £54,000-a-week. We can’t afford to keep paying him that for another year if he’s not going to play.
