The January transfer window is just around the corner for Newcastle United.
Quite how busy they will be, however, remains to be seen.
While PIF have invested in every window for which they have owned the club, FFP problems are said to linger.
Indeed, a relatively quiet window has been predicted by the likes of journalist Ben Jacobs even despite the fact both a midfielder and a forward are said to be on the agenda.
For anyone expecting Newcastle to act early in the market, Eddie Howe has addressed how the month will likely shape up.
Newcastle transfer news: Eddie Howe provides January latest
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s defeat at Luton, Howe warned that early signings next month are unlikely to happen.
“I probably wouldn’t expect any early developments, it’s a long month so we’ll wait and see,” he said (via the Northern Echo).
“I feel like a broken record. The January window is always very difficult. It’s an incredibly tough window to sign good players in. We did unbelievably well last year to sign Anthony Gordon, who is a top player. Not only for when we signed him, but for the longer term it was a really good deal.
“There are not too many of those transfers flying around so we need to be very careful. Any decision we make has to have long-term benefits to the team.”

Newcastle transfers: Quiet January expected
It’s difficult to imagine Newcastle going out and spending huge money on players next month.
Things certainly don’t work as simply as that. Laying down big transfer fees just to bring in players to cover for injuries hardly makes the most financial sense, after all.
With Newcastle’s exit from Europe also said to have had a negative impact on what they can spend in January too, the conditions do not look perfect.
Whatever happens, the recruitment has been so good since the takeover that the club have earned our trust.
