Newcastle signed Chris Wood in January but Callum Wilson wishes that another striker had come through the door.
Wood and Wilson are Newcastle’s only realistic striking options, especially since Joelinton’s redeployment in midfield and Dwight Gayle’s lack of gametime.
Speaking to the Footballer’s Football Podcast on the BBC, Wilson said that he wishes Eddie Howe had been able to bring another striker into the club before the deadline.

“Every striker needs assistance sometimes; there will be times when we don’t score and you need someone else to step up,” said Wilson.
“Sometimes setbacks happen – like what’s happened to me. You need cover for yourself. I was looking forward to the club bringing in another striker as well as Chris Wood.
“We needed one more, I thought as well. Unfortunately, we didn’t get that in those attacking areas but I back Woody and I back myself from now until the end of the season.
“When we’re hearing about strikers coming in the door, it is only going to benefit the team. The more the merrier. The competition does take you to the next level and bring out the best in you.”

Newcastle were linked with Hugo Ekitike from Reims in Ligue 1 and he was the forward who was closest to coming in the door before the deadline.
The deal could not get done but maybe it is one to revisit in the summer, when Premier League safety has hopefully been assured.
As Wilson eluded to, Newcastle still only have one fit striker who is a realistic option, while Gayle remains at the club but out of favour.
