William Osula is officially a Newcastle United player, and is ready to show the Toon Army what he is capable of.

The 21-year-old’s move from Sheffield United to Newcastle United is now official, after Osula underwent a medical on Monday. The club announced his arrival on Thursday morning, as Eddie Howe finally adds another striker to his squad.

William Osula will provide cover for Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson, whilst growing into a future Premier League starter on Tyneside.

Eddie Howe believes he can make Osula better, but he remains an unknown quantity for Newcastle fans.

He made 21 appearances in the Premier League last season for Sheffield United, including one at St James’ Park. However, he did not score a single goal, as the Blades were relegated to the Championship.

But Osula has been signed because of his potential, and is viewed as a ‘top athlete’ by Sheffield United expert Lee Connor, who spoke to Geordie Boot Boys about the Danish forward ahead of his move to Tyneside.

‘Fast’ Will Osula talks up his talents after Newcastle transfer

That is a view that Osula shares about himself, having spoke to NUFC TV about the skills he will bring to Newcastle United following his £15million arrival from Sheffield United.

“I feel like I’m fast,” he said.

“I like to express myself on the ball and go one-on-one against defenders. Hopefully I can add goals and assists for the team.”

Osula sounds like he has similar qualities to Alexander Isak

With the qualities that Osula has described, it comes as no surprise that Newcastle have signed him to serve as understudy to Alexander Isak.

The 24-year-old is also incredibly fast, and he loves facing defenders up and taking them on. And when it comes to goals and assists, he provides them in abundance. Last season was his best ever in terms of goals, finding the net 25 times in all competitions.

Of course, Osula is nowhere near Isak’s level. But it does sound as if they are similar in style, which could help the youngster as he aims to develop and grow as a player. When it comes to current Premier League strikers, there are not many better to learn from than Isak!

Newcastle fans will hope to see Osula make his debut this weekend

For Osula, he will have to wait for his opportunity. He will be the third choice striker at St James’ Park this season. But he will understand his role, which will have been made clear to him before he signed on the dotted line.

However, fans heading to St James’ Park this weekend may get a chance to see the Magpies’ latest signing in action.

Newcastle face Girona on Friday and Stade Brestois on Saturday as part of the Sela Weekender, with Eddie Howe set to split his squad across both games.

That could give Osula the chance to feature, and give Newcastle fans their first opportunity to see the new man in action.
