Will Osula has not made his competitive Newcastle United debut yet, but he is not concerned.

The striker was one of four new players to join Newcastle United this summer, with Will Osula arriving from Sheffield United.

The Magpies paid an initial £10million for the 21-year-old, who has been brought in to provide additional cover for Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson.

Osula is seen as a project player – someone who has potential and can be moulded into what Newcastle want from a forward.

The early signs are good. Osula impressed Newcastle fans on his debut in pre-season, putting in a lively display against Brest. He did not score, but showed glimpses of why the Magpies decided he was a good fit for the club.

However, the youngster has not played since. Osula has been an unused substitute in all four of Newcastle’s competitive games so far, as he continues to wait for his senior debut.

Will Osula ready to ‘learn’ at Newcastle United

But Osula is not concerned, and knows what he must do to eventually earn the trust of Eddie Howe and force his way into the Newcastle team.

The forward is currently away on international duty with Denmark Under-21s, and spoke to Ekstra Bladet about needing to grow and develop as a player before he gets opportunities in a black and white shirt.

“I’m getting there now, where there are already huge stars,” he said.

“So I get there and have to learn their style and how they play.

“I just have to come in and learn a lot of things from the coaches and players. I just have to become a better player and then hopefully my time will come where I can play a lot in the future.”

Eddie Howe will not play Osula for the sake of it

Osula is under no illusions about his role at Newcastle United.

He knows he has to get better. He knows he needs to learn what Newcastle want from him.

Until that happens, Eddie Howe will be reluctant to play the young forward. The Newcastle United manager does not just play people for the sake of it. If you represent his Newcastle team, there is a clear understanding that you are good enough and know your role.

Players have to earn his trust. We saw Lewis Miley do it at the age of 17-years-old, and he went on to be an important player for the Magpies last season.

At 21, Osula is a bit older. But he is still a player with potential, and he is going to massively benefit from regularly training alongside the likes of Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson.

They are top level forwards, and can certainly teach Osula a thing or two about scoring goals.
