Will Casemiro be suspended for the Carabao Cup final vs Newcastle?

Erik Ten Hag has shared on update on Casemiro‘s availability for Manchester United’s Carabao Cup final clash with Newcastle United later this month.

The Brazilian midfielder was given a red card against Crystal Palace after an incident with Will Hughes.

It looked as if Casemiro put his hands round the throat of Hughes, which was enough for the referee to send him off after watching a replay.

However, better angles suggested that the coming together wasn’t quite as violent as it first appeared.

This led to speculation that the Red Devils could appeal the decision, which would risk the 30-year-old receiving a lengthier ban if the appeal was rejected.

Now Manchester United have made up their mind.

Manchester United confirm Casemiro red card appeal decision ahead of Carabao Cup final

Ahead of their Premier League game against Leeds United, Ten Hag has announced that they will not be appealing Casemiro’s red card.

“For me, it’s not the right decision [to send Casemiro off] but I don’t think we have a chance in a legal process,” he said.

That means that his original three-game suspension will stand, and that he will be back in time for the League Cup final against Newcastle.

The games that Casemiro and Bruno Guimaraes will be suspended for

The three games that Casemiro will miss are two fixtures against Leeds and the game against Leicester on February 19th.

He will then be able to return to domestic action when his side take on Eddie Howe’s men at Wembley on February 26th, in what is Newcastle’s first cup final since 1999.

That is a huge boost for Man United, as Casemiro has been one of their best players this season. The Magpies’ chances of cup success certainly would have been enhanced if the former Real Madrid man was unavailable.

They will have their star midfielder back, and so will Newcastle. Bruno Guimaraes is also serving a three-game suspension after being sent off, and his first game back will be the League Cup final. He has already missed the draw with West Ham, and also won’t feature in our next two games against Bournemouth and Liverpool.

Both Brazilians will be available for selection, despite receiving three-game bans in the buildup to the final.
