Get to know Jacob Murphy, the Newcastle winger who has been transformed by Eddie Howe

Jacob Murphy has enjoyed a successful few years at Newcastle United since his 2017 arrival.

Joining from boyhood club Norwich City, Jacob Murphy was expected to become a regular under then-manager Rafa Benitez.

The winger’s career at St James’ Park never really got going though until the arrival of Eddie Howe in 2021.

Like many of the Newcastle first-team squad, Howe has transformed Murphy’s game – turning the former Norwich man into a fan favourite amongst the Toon faithful.

When and where was Jacob Murphy born?

Jacob Kai Murphy is currently 29 years old at the time of writing, having been born on February 24, 1995.

The Newcastle man was born in Wembley, London, and went on to join Norwich City’s academy at 11 years old.

Jacob Murphy comes from a strong sporting background with his twin brother Josh, also being a professional footballer. The pair came through the youth ranks at Norwich City, both featuring for the Canaries first-team.

Following Jacob’s 2017 departure to Newcastle, Josh would also exit the Norfolk-based outfit, joining Cardiff City in 2018.

Josh now plies his trade for Championship side Portsmouth after a successful two-year stint with Oxford City.
