A look back on five crazy Newcastle records that are unlikely to be broken any time soon.

First formed way back in 1892, Newcastle United has a rich history of memories to look back on.

During the club’s 132-year existence, there have been many legends to idolize as well as a few trophies to lift along the way.

There have been many extraordinary moments for Toon fans to reflect on but also some they will want to forget.

In this article, Geordie Boot Boys has taken a deep dive into the club’s records and picked out five that may never be broken.

The year is 1946, WW2 has just ended and the world of football is starting to kick back into gear.

In October, Newcastle United would face off against Newport County, welcoming over 52,000 fans into St James’ Park, the ninety minutes that would follow would go on to live long in the memory of Newcastle supporters.

A Newcastle team boasting the likes of Joe Harvey, Len Shackleton and Jackie Milburn would treat the Toon fans to an absolute goal fest, with the Magpies running riot in a 13-0 win. Yes, you read that right, 13 goals.

Len Shackleton would grab a double hattrick (more on that later), Charlie Wayman would put away four, Newcastle icon Milburn would grab a brace and Roy Bentley also grabbed himself a goal in the process.

Even more incredibly, the scoreline could have reached fourteen if Wayman hadn’t missed a penalty in the first half.

Most goals scored in a match – Len Shackleton

As previously mentioned, Len Shackleton managed to notch six goals during the 13-0 win against Newport County.

Shackleton would go on to score another twenty goals for the Magpies before joining arch-rivals Sunderland in 1948.

The closest anyone has come to beating the 78-year-old record was Alan Shearer’s five goals against Sheffield Wednesday in 1999.

Fastest-ever recorded goal

It simply wouldn’t be a Newcastle record list without Alan Shearer’s name on it.

Newcastle’s legendary number nine recorded the club’s fastest-ever goal against Manchester City back in 2003, clocking in at just 10.52 seconds.

Shearer chased down Manchester City goalkeeper Carlo Nash and Nash’s kick would recurshay off the Newcastle striker and he would slot home from ten yards.

The lightning-quick goal ranks as the fourth quickest in Premier League history.

Highest appearance maker ever for Newcastle – Jimmy Lawrence

Scottish goalkeeper, Jimmy Lawrence is Newcastle United’s record appearance holder, having represented the club 507 times.

Lawrence played for the Magpies between 1904 and 1922, winning three championship medals during his time in the North-East.

Like many players during that time, Lawrence had to take four years out of the game following the suspension of football during World War 1.

The closest any modern-day player has come to breaking the record is fellow goalkeeper Shay Given, who made 463 appearances during a twelve-year stint on Tyneside.

Most different scorers in a single Premier League match

When Newcastle supporters travelled to Sheffield United in September 2023, they could not have imagined the eight-goal treat they were about to be served up.

Racing into a three-nil lead before half-time, goals from Sean Longstaff, Dan Burn and Sven Botman put the Magpies into cruise control at the break.

Eddie Howe’s side however would not stop there, notching another five goals in the second half condemning the Blades to an embarrassing 8-0 defeat come the final whistle.

All eight of Newcastle’s goals were scored by different players which meant they beat Manchester United’s previous record of seven different goalscorers, during their 9-0 win over Southampton back in 2021.
