Newcastle United striker Will Osula could experience something very special this weekend.
The 21-year-old has joined the Magpies, with his £15million transfer to Newcastle United becoming official on Thursday.
It is an interesting bit of business, and Newcastle are hopeful that signing Osula is a good deal.
That will depend on how he develops, and Eddie Howe believes he can help Osula improve as a player.
Improvement is the aim of the game, as Osula prepares to work alongside Newcastle’s other strikers – Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson.
Will Osula could make his Newcastle United debut this weekend
The Danish forward has trained with his new teammates following his arrival from Sheffield United, which should result in him featuring in the upcoming Sela Weekender.
Newcastle United face Girona on Friday night, followed by another friendly with Stade Brestois on Saturday.
With Howe set to split his first-team squad across two games, fans in attendance should see Osula make his first appearance for the club.
It will be the first chance for him to experience the St James’ Park crowd as a home player, which should prove to be a special moment.
Sven Botman’s St James’ Park message to Osula
As it stands, Osula has not been to St James’ Park since officially becoming a Newcastle United player.
That is what he told Sven Botman during a video that the club have released on their official app.
Osula bumped into Botman during a tour of the training ground, with the Dutchman asking his new teammate if he has been to St James’ Park yet.
Botman: “Have you been to the stadium?”
Osula: “No, I’ve not been to the stadium yet. Just drove past.”
Botman: It’s the best place.”
Osula: “I know, I’ve seen the fans.”
Osula has played at St James’ Park before
Botman has told Osula that St James’ Park is the ‘best place’, and he is spot on. Magical things happen in that stadium, and Eddie Howe has turned it back into a fortress during his tenure.
Even if Osula does play this weekend, he still won’t have felt St James’ Park at full force. That might have to wait until the week after, when Newcastle start the new Premier League season at home to Southampton.
However, Osula has actually played at Newcastle’s stadium before. He made an appearance at St James’ Park last season, coming off the bench for Sheffield United during a 5-1 win for the Magpies.
But that was as an opposition player. Running out onto the St James’ Park pitch must be a different feeling when you are wearing black and white, and it is a feeling that Osula is going to experience very soon.
