Newcastle United have endured a difficult summer thus far.

After avoiding a ten-point deduction from the Premier League due to the PSR rules, there must have been hope from supporters that Newcastle would be accelerating their transfer plans.

Still, nothing has yet happened.

Indeed, Eddie Howe has confirmed he still does not know his transfer budget under PIF, with Lloyd Kelly the only one of the three additions who looks ready to make a first-team impact.

Nick Pope, after all, does not look particularly likely to lose his starting berth to new signing Odysseas Vlachodimos, while John Ruddy is a long-shot to a play first-team game for Howe.

Amid all of that, there’s the change in structure. Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi have left St James’ Park, while Paul Mitchell and James Bunce have arrived as a new sporting and performance director respectively.

Howe, meanwhile, has been linked with replacing Gareth Southgate as England manager.

Clearly, there’s a lot to get through and the club do need to sign players ahead of the new Premier League season.

Now, some insight into what was discussed by PIF representatives during a recent meeting at Alnwick Castle has emerged.

What was discussed at Alnwick Castle during a recent Newcastle meeting

According to journalist Joel Bland on social media platform X, eight guests met there – including representatives from the owners – to discuss a range of topics.

A season review was reportedly conducted, as well as a look into the injury crisis that proved unrelenting last season.

When asked about the main focus of the meeting, Bland added that a discussion about the injuries was one of the leading topics.

Eddie Howe may not be getting his wish from Paul Mitchell at Newcastle

With Bland also suggesting transfer talk remained quiet, Howe may not be getting his wish from new sporting director Mitchell.

The Newcastle boss is reportedly keen to strengthen his squad further by the time they jet off to Japan for a pre-season tour next week.

Still, with nothing looking imminent, that would appear unlikely at this stage.
