Pep Guardiola is reportedly a huge fan of Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.
That’s according to the Athletic’s George Caulkin, who states that the Manchester City boss is always ‘very complimentary’ about the 24-year-old.
Newcastle played brilliantly against Guardiola’s side on Sunday, with Bruno one of many Toon players to impress.
He picked up an early booking for a cynical challenge on Kevin de Bruyne, but then showed impeccable discipline. The Brazilian never even came close to getting a second yellow, but still managed to play with the same tempo and ferocity.
Bruno was vital in Newcastle’s pressing, and celebrated tackles as if they were goals. He showed his obscene ability against one of the best teams in the world, and he has an admirer in Guardiola.
Guardiola loves Bruno Guimaraes
On the latest episode of Pod On The Tyne, Athletic reporters Caulkin and Chris Waugh discussed the impact Bruno had on the game against Man City. It was then revealed what Guardiola really thinks of Newcastle’s number 39.
“Talking to people at City, Guardiola talks about him [Bruno] all the time as well,” Caulkin said.
“I’m not saying this in a manner that we should be frightened of. But he’s always very complimentary about Bruno apparently. He’s such a silky player.”
Man City missed their chance
It speaks volumes about Bruno’s ability that Guardiola is such a big fan of his. However, Caulkin is keen to reiterate that it doesn’t mean a Man City bid is on the horizon.
However, perhaps they are ruing missing out on the Brazil international. Newcastle seemed to sign him unchallenged in January, which is staggering when you consider how good he is.
He certainly would have been a good addition at City, especially with Fernandinho leaving this summer. Luckily, we secured Bruno’s services just in time.
Now he’s a Newcastle player, and that will hopefully remain true for a very long time. If it does, it likely means that the Magpies are going in the right direction.
Bruno is a player who should be competing at the top level. Eddie Howe’s side aren’t there yet, but that’s the aim.
Real Madrid have been interested, while the best manager in the world is always talking about him. Newcastle have an absolute superstar when it comes to Bruno Guimaraes.
