Newcastle United and Jose Mourinho is a link you’ll see reasonably often.
The self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ has previously talked about his love for Newcastle, having worked so closely with Sir Bobby Robson earlier in his career.
For much of Mourinho’s time in management, he looked out of Newcastle’s reach. Still, with the club on the up and the former Chelsea boss on the down, PIF had been tipped to make a move for him.
While there is no suggestion Eddie Howe is in any danger at Newcastle, he was linked with the England job and this summer suggested working conditions had to be right if he was to stay at the club.
Mourinho, interestingly, also recently hinted at a potential return to the Premier League – albeit in a slightly jokey fashion.
According to Miguel Delaney in his Reading the Game newsletter, however, there are some noises emerging about Mourinho and English football once more.

Writing about the ex-Manchester United and Tottenham boss, Delaney hinted there are suggestions Mourinho is monitoring potential jobs in England and The Independent journalist suggested Newcastle are the “obvious” one.

“He is enjoying his time at Fenerbahce but the word from Istanbul is that he is already monitoring jobs that might come up in England. Newcastle United are an obvious one.”

Mourinho is a big name and has won trophies pretty much everywhere he’s been. Though it should be stressed there is no claim that Howe will leave Newcastle any time soon, Mourinho – in some circles at least – could be considered an attractive target, if at some point the club are on the lookout for a new manager.
Still, his time at the top appears to be over. It did not work out for him towards the end of his time in the Premier League and little about what he’s done since suggests that will change.
