According to the Telegraph, the Newcastle players were encouraged to relax and unwind during their first few days in Dubai. They state that the squad played golf and tennis, as well as taking part in team bonding exercises that had been arranged by the club.

The Telegraph add that the final few days of the trip included intense training sessions, with Howe needing a big final push from his players to qualify for the Europa or Europa Conference League.

The report adds that the trip appears to have been a success, which is very encouraging ahead of the final 10 Premier League games of the season.

But the proof will be in the pudding, starting on Saturday against West Ham United. It is a must-win game for the Magpies, considering that the Hammers are four points above us in seventh.

A win closes the gap to a point with a game in hand, while a defeat sees it increase to seven. That is why this is such a massive fixture, and one that Howe needs to be victorious in.

Hopefully that proves to be the case, although the last two meetings between the sides at St James’ Park have been draws.
