What Newcastle players actually think of Anthony Gordon after January arrival

Anthony Gordon is already making a good impression behind the scenes at Newcastle United by the sound of things.

Newcastle signed Gordon during the January transfer window, but the 22-year-old is yet to burst into life in a black and white shirt.

Eddie Howe believes he has signed a star of the future, but has openly admitted that we are yet to see the best of the Scouse winger.

He will be hoping to perform to his best tonight, when he returns to Goodison Park for the first time since leaving Everton – in rather controversial circumstances.

The youngster comes across as a controversial character, and did himself no favours when he spat his dummy out after Howe took him off in stoppage time against Brentford. There are also his previous skirmishes with Newcastle players, often tussling with the opposition when he was playing for Everton. He clashed with Fabian Schar, Kieran Trippier, Bruno Guimaraes and many more at St James’ Park earlier this season.

However, those incidents do not paint a true picture of how Gordon is viewed behind the scenes at St James’ Park.

Antony Gordon is well liked by his Newcastle teammates already

According to the Telegraph, Gordon is already a popular member of Howe’s squad, despite only joining in January.

It appears that those previous incidents are in the past, with Gordon being welcomed into the group with open arms. That is no surprise, as what happens on the pitch stays on the pitch.

As Howe has often said, he is a passionate player. You can see that in the way he plays, although the Toon boss has called on Gordon to work on controlling his emotions at certain times.

We are yet to see the best of Gordon on the pitch, but it sounds like he is settling in really well. The report from the Telegraph adds that the Newcastle coaching team have been impressed with him in training, highlighting a desire from himself to grow and improve as a player.

That is something that he will definitely do under Howe, like so many have done already.

The manager has created a brilliant culture at Newcastle United. He has built a band of brothers that continue to get better, and now Gordon has been welcomed into the group.
