Dan Ashworth is leaving Newcastle United for Manchester United, but it could be a while before he starts work at Old Trafford.
That is because the Magpies are looking for a huge compensation package. It has been reported that they want Man United to pay £20million to get Dan Ashworth, which is a crazy amount of money for a behind the scenes figure.
But it shows that Newcastle will not roll over. If Man United are serious they can put their money where their mouth is.
The Red Devils have played this whole saga out in public, and now it is Newcastle putting them under pressure to pay up. If they don’t, Ashworth will continue to spend his days on gardening leave. As it stands, that could run until early 2026 if Man United do not agree a compensation package with Newcastle.
And at the moment, Man United have no interest in bowing down to the Magpies’ demands.
Man United don’t want to boost Newcastle financially
According to ESPN, Man United are concerned about giving Newcastle such a big financial boost as it would help them out with regards to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules. In turn, it would also hinder Man United’s position.
ESPN add that the Red Devils will instead look to pay a smaller package, with the view to getting Ashworth to start work early next year.

Newcastle must stand firm over Dan Ashworth
Newcastle absolutely must stand firm. They must not be bullied by Man United, who are doing all of this in public for a reason. They want to put Newcastle under pressure, but the Toon owner must resist.
We are in the position of power, not them. If Man United want Ashworth, pay the money. It is as simple as that.
If they don’t, Ashworth will be spending a lot of time on gardening leave, so much so that he will have the best bushes around! But will the grass be greener at Man United compared to Newcastle? Only time will tell.
