Superstitious Newcastle United fans have been very worried about what kit the Magpies will wear against Sunderland in the FA Cup.
Eddie Howe‘s side head to the Stadium Of Light this weekend, as they take on Sunderland in the first Tyne-Wear derby since 2016.
The FA Cup clash on Wearside is a mouthwatering fixture, and one that neutrals can’t wait for. I have to say the feeling is not mutual from a Newcastle point of view, as there is a real sense of fear that another derby defeat is looming.
Newcastle have not won against Sunderland since 2011, but they are the favourites on this occasion. If anything, that puts the Magpies under even more pressure to come out on top.
It is a must-win game for Eddie Howe, whose team will at least not be burdened by a jersey that has not brought them luck this season.
Newcastle to wear black and white kit vs Sunderland
According to Newcastle World, the Magpies will be wearing their black and white home shirt against Sunderland on Saturday.
That is excellent news, as there was concern from fans that they might be forced to wear the green away kit.
Howe’s side are yet to win a competitive game wearing that shirt, despite donning it on four occasions this season.
It got its first runout against Brighton in September, and that brought about a 3-1 defeat. It was then used again away to Wolves, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
That is the only point we have picked up when wearing that kit, as what came next were defeats to Borussia Dortmund and Bournemouth.
Much like the white kit last season, it feels like this year’s ‘Saudi’ Newcastle shirt is also proving to be unlucky. Fortunately, it does not look like we will be seeing it at the Stadium Of Light on Saturday.
Instead, Newcastle will be in their famous black and white stripes. And rightly so.
