It has been an interesting week for Sandro Tonali and Newcastle United.
It started with the 24-year-old losing his place in the Magpies’ starting XI, as Newcastle lost 4-2 to Brentford.
Sandro Tonali was in great form going into that game, but found himself on the bench at the Gtech Community Stadium. However, that was likely due to fatigue, with the midfielder suffering cramp during the 3-3 draw with Liverpool.
The Italian media then called Tonali a ‘reserve’ player at Newcastle, as they pined for him to return to Serie A.
It then went a step further, with an Italian outlet claiming that Tonali is unhappy at Newcastle United and wants to leave.
Tonali’s agent rubbished talk of a Newcastle departure, insisting that his client is happy in the North East and does not want to be sold.

How Sandro Tonali has felt at Newcastle United
Speculation over Tonali’s future has been put to bed. The midfield maestro will not be leaving the club in January, which does not come as a great surprise.
Even if he really was unhappy and wanted to return to Italy, a deal would be pretty much impossible for financial reasons.
But while Tonali is happy being a Newcastle United player, he has not always been happy about the situation he has found himself in.
That is according to the Daily Mail, who report that Tonali has been frustrated at times due to not being in the starting XI.
After a run in the side earlier in the season, Tonali was dropped for the win over Arsenal. He endured three games out of the starting XI, before returning to face Crystal Palace and Liverpool.
Why Sandro Tonali should no longer be frustrated
That return to the starting XI coincided with a change in position.
Howe has regularly played Tonali as a ‘number eight’, but that has now changed. He is now operating as Newcastle’s deepest midfielder, playing as a ‘number six’ ahead of Bruno Guimaraes. That has resulted in the Brazilian playing in a more advanced role.
It has culminated in Tonali playing his best ever football for Newcastle, and it should lead to less frustration for the Italian.
He has proven his importance to this Newcastle side, and should now be a consistent starter for Eddie Howe.
Tonali is predicted to start against Leicester on Saturday, as the Magpies aim to stop the rot.
