The agent of Sandro Tonali has delivered a message after claims the midfielder wants to leave Newcastle United.

There has always been a clamour for Sandro Tonali to return to Serie A from the Italian media, but that ramped up in recent days.

It started with the Italian media calling Tonali a ‘reserve’ player at Newcastle United, then they took it even further on Wednesday.

Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Tonali is unhappy at Newcastle United and wants to return to Italy. It was a staggering story, with Newcastle fans gutted about the Tonali claim.

However, the 24-year-old’s agent now says that there is no reason for Toon fans to be upset.

Whether Sandro Tonali is unhappy at Newcastle United

That is because Giuseppe Riso, Tonali’s agent, has delivered a message about his client’s happiness and his future at St James’ Park via Fabrizio Romano.

Riso told Romano on X: “Sandro is absolutely not considering to return in Serie A. He’s happy at Newcastle, happy to play in the best league in the world and he’s an idol for #NUFC fans who’ve always supported Sandro in every moment.”

An unhappy Tonali could have solved Newcastle’s PSR problem

If the story about Tonali being unhappy was true, that could have given Newcastle an opportunity to solve their PSR nightmare ahead of the January transfer window.

Geordie Boot Boys have been told that Newcastle need to sell before they buy in January, with the likes of Miguel Almiron linked with a move away. There has also been speculation over Harvey Barnes’ Newcastle future.

But if Tonali truly was unhappy, he would be the perfect candidate to be sold. He would bring in a lot more money, which would create more opportunity for Newcastle to reinvest.

However, with Tonali’s agent debunking the unhappiness story, the Magpies will need another way to boost their revenue.

Newcastle will ensure Tonali is happy in black and white

Riso has put the rumours to bed, insisting that ‘madman’ Tonali is very happy to be a Newcastle United player.

It is a positive message from the midfielder’s representative, as there was a lot of anger and disappointment from Toon fans when the news from Italy emerged.

Now the midfield maestro can get back to focussing on his football, ahead of the Magpies’ Premier League clash with Leicester City at St James’ Park.

After starting on the bench against Brentford, it feels likely that Tonali will return to Eddie Howe’s XI on Saturday.

He has now found his role in this Newcastle side, replacing Bruno Guimaraes in the ‘six’ position. Tonali is now Newcastle’s deepest midfielder, allowing Bruno to influence the game higher up the pitch.

It feels like a recipe for success, and it should result in Tonali now being a consistent figure in the Newcastle United side. That will help Eddie Howe ensure that Tonali is definitely happy at Newcastle.

Tonali is a suspension concern

However, there is a risk that Newcastle could soon lose Tonali.

That is because he has picked up four yellow cards in the Premier League, which means he is one away from a suspension.

Given the position he plays, it would be astonishing if Tonali avoids another booking between now and the Magpies’ 19th Premier League game of the season.

Tonali is one of three Newcastle players on the brink of suspension, with Fabian Schar and Joelinton also on four yellow cards.
