The Newcastle United owners worked so hard to hire Dan Ashworth two years ago, and now it looks like he will be leaving.

Dan Ashworth got the job as Newcastle United Sporting Director in 2022, and admitted that it would take three summer transfer windows to remodel the squad under his guidance. But it looks like he will not be around to oversee that elusive third window.

That is because Manchester United have stepped up their interest in the 52-year-old, and it looks like he is keen to make the move to Old Trafford.

There are multiple reasons why Ashworth would want to leave Newcastle United for Manchester United, but a fallout with the Toon owners is not one of them.

Dan Ashworth has a good relationship with Newcastle’s owners in the UK

According to the Daily Mail, Dan Ashworth has a good relationship with the Newcastle owners that are in the UK – Amanda Staveley, Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Jamie Reuben.

The report states that while Ashworth is more measured, the owners can sometimes be emotional in their approach. However, there is no hint in a rift between Sporting Director and owners.

But there are a lot of factors as to why Ashworth does look likely to swap St James’ Park for Old Trafford, one of which is control.

The Daily Mail state that the former FA chief will have more control at Man United than he does at Newcastle right now, while there is also the lure of a bigger salary and being closer to his family home. On top of that, the Daily Mail add that there is also the appeal of being the one in charge of bringing Man United back to their former glories.

Understandable why Dan Ashworth wants Man United move

With all things considered, it is understandable why Ashworth will be keen to take this opportunity. But a deal is still not straightforward, and will require Man United to pay a sizeable compensation package.

But control has to be the biggest factor for Ashworth. He will be pulling more strings at Man United, which is a pretty big deal considering they still have to be considered as one of the biggest clubs in the world.

It will be a shame for Newcastle to lose him, but it will be a chance for someone else to come in and finish what he started on Tyneside.
