Everyone wants to know what is going to happen to Eddie Howe if Newcastle United lose to Sunderland on Saturday.
It is something that is not even worth thinking about for Newcastle fans, as this is simply a must-win game. Going up against Sunderland in the FA Cup is absolutely massive, at a time when the Magpies are struggling.
The media have been ramping up the pressure on Eddie Howe in recent weeks, and many are pondering that his future at St James’ Park could be uncertain if his side were to be dumped out of the FA Cup at the Stadium Of Light.
However, TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook is confident that one member of the Toon hierarchy will maintain their faith in Howe no matter what happens against Sunderland on Saturday.
Amanda Staveley will back Eddie Howe even if Newcastle lose on Saturday
Journalist Alex Crook appeared on TalkSPORT on Thursday morning (7:44am), and was asked by host Alan Brazil what will happen to Howe if Newcastle lose to Sunderland.
“I think Newcastle’s a fascinating situation,” he said.
“When you look at the ownership structure, there are so many different people who have their opinion.
“I think this is partly why Dan Ashworth potentially could end up at Manchester United, because maybe as sporting director he doesn’t get the power at Newcastle that he would get elsewhere because there are so many different cooks all wanting to put in their various ingredients.
“I think certainly from Amanda Staveley’s perspective, she’s aware of what Eddie Howe did last season, he’s got credit in the bank.”

Massive pressure on Newcastle to win the derby
Amanda Staveley is right to stand by Howe. He certainly does have more than enough credit in the bank.
While a loss would be absolutely heartbreaking, you have to assume that the majority of Toon fans will share Staveley’s stance and still have faith in Howe. The job he has done has been spectacular, and this recent dip should not define his tenure.
Of course, this is all hypothetical. Newcastle are expected to beat Sunderland on Saturday, given the fact that there is such a gulf between the two sides. This is a team that was in the Champions League up against a Championship side.
But the Magpies have been dumped out of the cup by lower league opposition in the past two seasons in humiliating fashion, and the stakes are even higher on this occasion.
