Newcastle United need reinforcements in January, and Amanda Staveley and co should see that clearer than ever after the Boxing Day defeat to Nottingham Forest.
Eddie Howe‘s side were haunted by a player from their past, with Chris Wood netting a hat-trick to resign the Magpies to a third consecutive defeat.
Newcastle were absolutely woeful, particularly in the second half, with a desperate performance leading to a bleak defeat that was not innkeeping with the Christmas spirit.
The Toon defence gifted Forest chance after chance, as their fans grew louder and louder after each time Wood hit the back of the net.
Newcastle’s season is beginning to unravel, and Howe needs to get things back on track as soon as possible. Luckily the January transfer window is looming, which at least gives the club the chance to enhance a struggling squad.
While results as of late have not been good, there is no reason to panic. Howe will continue to get the support from the owners, and rightly so.

Amanda Staveley visited the Newcastle dressing room after Forest loss
That continued on Boxing Day, with the Chronicle sharing information on what co-owner Amanda Staveley did after the 3-1 defeat to Forest.
According to the Chronicle, Staveley visited the players and staff in the dressing room, offering her support after a sixth defeat in seven games.
The presence of Staveley in the dressing room is no reflection of the result. She appears to show her support no matter what, whether it was the Boxing Day loss to Forest, a defeat on the road against Bournemouth or a historic victory over Sheffield United.
The club appear to be a tight-knit group, with everyone from board level to pitch level pulling in the same direction.
Those relationships will be tested during this difficult period, but they should be strong enough to come out the other side. This is a low moment for Newcastle under Howe, but he has enough credit in the bank to rectify it.
For all our highs under his guidance, there was always going to be a low. We have experienced a fair few lows during this difficult run, but it is clear that Howe has the support of the ownership, especially Staveley.
