Newcastle United striker Chris Wood is enjoying his role as a rotation player in Eddie Howe’s squad, according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs.

Speaking on Steve Wraith’s YouTube show ‘NUFC Matters’, the journalist revealed the 31-year-old is content with his current job in the Magpies squad.

“He is very much enjoying life at Newcastle as a squad player,” Jacobs said.

“It remains to be seen whether clubs come in for him and [if] he wants more game time.”

Back in January, the Tyneside outfit signed Wood from Burnley in a deal worth £25m. He still has 18 months left on his contract.

With every team competing at the top level, you need a squad full of quality – and quality in its depth, too.

Consequently, Wood is a very strong option for Howe to have on his bench. In 185 Premier League appearances, the striker has bagged 53 goals. With the vast majority of these coming whilst he played for a defensive Burnley side, this is an impressive record.

As a result, the New Zealand international could easily start regularly in another team from the bottom half of the top-flight.

Saying this, his contentedness as a squad player is a big boost to the Magpies, as they don’t need to worry about a lack of depth up front.

However, for PIF and Dan Ashworth, this could be an issue when it comes to moving him on. Following reports that the Toon could be looking to move him on in January, it may be a hard task convincing the player to leave the club.

Obviously happy where he is, this could mean the club seeing out his contract, which expires in the summer of 2024.
