‘Very good player’: Eddie Howe suggests 20-year-old Newcastle youngster could start vs Dortmund

Eddie Howe is going to have to make at least one change to his Newcastle United team against Borussia Dortmund.

That is because the Magpies picked up yet another injury during their drama-filled 1-0 win over Arsenal on Saturday.

Dan Burn was forced off at half time with a back problem, and Howe has shared a disappointing update on the 31-year-old. Ahead of the Dortmund game, Howe has said that Burn is going to be out of action for a few months.

That is a huge blow, at a time when Newcastle‘s squad is already depleted.

It means that there will be a change to the Toon defence when the Magpies face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday night, with Tino Livramento the favourite to come into the side.

Howe hints Livramento could start for Newcastle against Dortmund

Ahead of the game against Dortmund, Howe spoke to the media and praised the recent efforts of Livramento.

“Tino is a very good player,” he said.

“He showed that coming into a difficult moment on Saturday, that game was evenly poised and the atmosphere was red hot.

“He was playing against a very good opponent and he has come on and done very well again. We will make decisions on team selection based on all the information we have.”

Another chance for Livramento to shine for Newcastle

Livramento replaced Burn at half time against Arsenal, with Kieran Trippier moving over to left-back.

That feels like the change Howe will make against Dortmund, rather than starting Lewis Hall in the Champions League.

For Livramento, it is another opportunity to show what he is capable of. The 20-year-old has already excelled against Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal, so there is no reason for him to fear Dortmund.

Champions League nights will be a big reason why Livramento joined Newcastle, and now he could get the chance to start his first ever major European game.

It is a chance he deserves, having nullified Gabriel Martinelli on Saturday.

Livramento has enjoyed a bright start to his Toon career despite only playing sporadically, but he could now be on the brink of an extended run in the side after Burn’s injury.

It is a real shame to lose Burn, but Howe will have complete faith that Livramento can come in and continue to prove exactly why he cost as much as £32million this summer.
