The 30-year-old has been part of so many incredible moments in a Newcastle United shirt, having established himself as a key player under Eddie Howe.
Jacob Murphy has been sensational this season, becoming a part of the club’s history. He helped Newcastle win the Carabao Cup, getting an assist for Alexander Isak in the final.
Despite winning a trophy, Murphy does not think he is a Newcastle United legend.

Jacob Murphy admits Newcastle United moment was ‘unprofessional’
He has been part of iconic moment after iconic moment, from celebrating wildly with the Sela Cup to his reaction to hearing the Champions League anthem for the first time.
Those moments resulted in Jacob Murphy going viral, but there is one that the £12million man regrets.
That came in 2023, when he cheekily waved at Duje Caleta-Car after the defender was sent off during Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg win over Southampton.
“I regret that, because it was a bit unprofessional,” he told the Athletic.
“I was annoyed because he was going around kicking everyone, so when he got sent off, I was like, ‘See ya’.”
No regrets over Newcastle United vs Manchester United moment
While Murphy wishes he had not done what he did at St Mary’s, there was an incident a few months later that he certainly does not regret.
Newcastle United faced Manchester United in the Premier League in April 2023. Ahead of that game, Erik ten Hag was critical of the Magpies, accusing them of playing slowly.
That inspired an incredible team talk from Eddie Howe, who called on his players to give Manchester United a fast game. They did just that, with Newcastle winning 2-0 with a dominant display.
As the Toon players exited the pitch, Murphy turned to a camera and pointed at an imaginary watch on his wrist. It was a clear nod towards Ten Hag’s time-wasting criticism.
During the same interview with the Athletic, Murphy explained his actions.
“It was a bit of, ‘Still think we’re time-wasters?’,” he said.
“‘If you want a quick game, we’ll make it a quick game. Maybe you don’t want us to do it that quick, actually’.”
