‘Unbelievable’… Lewis Miley stunned after what’s happened to him at Newcastle recently

Newcastle United youngster Lewis Miley has been one of the highlights of the season and was rightly awarded a new contract at the end of January.

The midfielder has played more minutes than anyone could have expected and yet looks very comfortable sitting alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Sean Longstaff in the first team.

Following the news of his new long-term deal, Miley posted an update on Instagram to let supporters know just how grateful he is for the opportunity and how much he is looking forward to the future.

Miley has been Newcastle’s unexpected hero

In a season in which Newcastle’s squad has been absolutely ravaged by injuries, Miley has turned out to be the one positive of every other midfielder being unavailable this season.

The 17-year-old was not expected to have a key role to play despite excelling in pre-season, though Howe wanted to keep him in and around the first team rather than send him out on loan.

Now, as Miley continues time and time again to prove that he deserves a place in that team, it’s going to be difficult for someone to push him out when the eventually return.

Of course, Eddie Howe would rather he wasn’t playing so often at such a young age, but it’s given him the opportunity to heavily impress and earn himself this new contract which he absolutely deserves.

On Instagram, Miley said: “It’s about how far I’ve still got to go. It’s been an unbelievable 6 months & to cap it off with a new contract is beyond what I could have dreamt of at 17. Looking forward to pushing on for this amazing club.”

Newcastle’s future looks very bright

Miley stands out in this Newcastle squad because he is just 17, which is just unbelievable when you consider how good he’s been this season, but he’s not the only young star on Tyneside.

The Magpies have so far built a strong young core in the last couple of years since the takeover with Alexander Isak, Lewis Hall, Tino Livramento, Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Sven Botman all 24 or under.

They’ve still got some way to go in terms of their development and with a young manager at the helm it’s definitely an exciting time to be a Newcastle fan as their future just looks brighter and brighter every season.
