Unai Emery has played down rumours of a move to Newcastle United.
The former Arsenal boss is reportedly in the running to replace Steve Bruce, who was sacked by the Magpies almost two weeks ago.
Emery is currently managing in Spain after his Arsenal tenure came to a catastrophic end in November 2019. He’s rebuilding his reputation at Villarreal, where he won the Europa League last season.

But could the 49-year-old leave La Liga for another shot in the Premier League?
This news will have excited a lot of Toon fans, who were already buzzing when his name first emerged.
However, Emery has poured cold water on an imminent move to St James’ Park.

Unai Emery knows nothing about Newcastle rumours
When asked by the Spanish press about joining the Magpies, Emery said: “I don’t know anything about Newcastle.”
AS add that neither Emery or Villarreal want to split up midway through the season, but they admit that Newcastle’s financial muscle could change things.
Emery would certainly be a wonderful and ambitious appointment by the new Toon owners.

Out of the names being most heavily linked, he is probably the best option. He has Premier league experience over Paulo Fonseca and Lucien Favre, while he hasn’t failed as drastically as Roberto Martinez in the past.
But will Newcastle be able to lure him back to the Premier League? As it stands, it feels unlikely, but stranger things have happened.
