Unai Emery is reportedly a contender to replace Steve Bruce as Newcastle manager.
That’s according to the Times, who name the Spaniard as one of the three leading candidates alongside Steven Gerrard and Roberto Martinez.
All three options would be better than Bruce, who once again proved that he is out of his depth on Sunday.
The new owners are reportedly stepping up their pursuit of a new manager. Here’s hoping there will be someone new in the dugout against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

But who should be Bruce’s replacement?
Well a lot of fans are enthused about the prospect of Emery returning to the Premier League.
The 49-year-old previously managed Arsenal, spending 18 months at the Emirates. Emery had the difficult task of replacing Arsene Wenger, and things certainly didn’t go to plan.
He did come close to delivering a trophy, reaching the 2019 Europa League final.
Emery is now at Villarreal, where he’s already brought silverware. His side beat Manchester United in the 2021 Europa league final. He finished seventh in his first season back in La Liga, and his side are currently 11th after eight games this season.

But would he come to St James’? Will he really leave a Champions League club for a Premier League relegation battle?
But if they can overcome those hurdles, some Toon fans would be very happy to see Emery replace Bruce on the touchline at SJP.
