Newcastle United want to avoid another Alexander Isak situation, as they attempt to tie down a number of their key players.
The Magpies sold Isak to Liverpool on transfer deadline day, with his falling out at St James’ Park stemming from a contract dispute. It was an unsavoury ending to what had been an incredible Newcastle United career.
Eddie Howe’s side are moving on, and still boast plenty of top level players. They are keen for that to remain the case for a long time, which is why the club are eager to hand out pay rises to at least two members of the Newcastle United squad.

Newcastle United plan contract extensions for Sandro Tonali and Tino Livramento
Transfer expert Graeme Bailey has exclusively spoken to Geordie Boot Boys, stating that Newcastle United plan to open contract negotiations with Sandro Tonali and Tino Livramento.
It would be a reward for their incredible form in black and white, while it would keep Manchester City away from the latter following their summer interest.
“He [Sandro Tonali] has started to really look the part,” Bailey said.
“He’s on relatively good money, but he is due a pay rise to take him alongside Bruno Guimaraes. It is something on Newcastle’s agenda. They want Tino Livramento to sign a new deal as well.
“They should be the next cabs off the rank in terms of new contracts. Newcastle will be looking to get those done, especially Livramento after Manchester City’s interest.”

How much Newcastle United wanted for Sandro Tonali this summer
Tonali is Newcastle’s most important player nowadays. He makes Eddie Howe’s side tick in the middle of the park, shaking off those initial concerns that he did not suit English football after his arrival in 2023. Fast forward to 2025 and Tonali is a ‘beast’ for Newcastle United.
Throughout his time on Tyneside, there have been rumours of a return to Italy. It was even reported earlier in September that Juventus dream of signing Tonali in 2026.
Now a new story in Italy has reported that the Serie A giants tried to land the 25-year-old during the summer transfer window, only to be put off by the Magpies’ asking price.

According to TuttoJuve, Juventus were told Tonali would cost £87million.
That would have represented a £32million profit for Newcastle United, with Tonali costing £55million from AC Milan two years ago.
Toon fans will feel Tonali is worth more than that, while Eddie Howe will see his midfield maestro as priceless.
