Newcastle United fans have a new favourite chant for a player who is quickly becoming a new favourite, summer signing Malick Thiaw.

It was a brilliant trip to Brussels for Newcastle United and thousands of supporters in October, as Eddie Howe’s side got off the mark in the Champions League with a 4-0 victory over Union Saint-Gilloise.

Nick Woltemade’s genius flick opened the scoring before Anthony Gordon scored a brace from the penalty spot and Harvey Barnes wrapped up the game late on.

Yet, the name on every supporter’s lips in Lotto Park and in the centre of the Belgian capital was Malick Thiaw.

The centre-back was one of seven summer signings, with Newcastle spending up to £34m to bring in Thiaw from AC Milan.

It hasn’t taken long for Newcastle fans to come up with a great chant for him.

Words for Newcastle United fans’ Malick Thiaw chant

Thiaw’s name is pronounced like ‘Ciao’, which has given Toon supporters the perfect platform to come up with a catchy chant.

Sung to the tune of the Italian anti-fascist folk song ‘Bella Ciao’, here are the lyrics for the chant that could be heard ringing out all over Brussels.

Oh na na na na
Oh na na na na
Thiaw Malick
Thiaw Malick
Thiaw! Thiaw! Thiaw!

Came from Milano
To play with Sandro
And he loves the f_____ Toon

Oh na na na na
Oh na na na na
Thiaw Malick
Thiaw Malick
Thiaw! Thiaw! Thiaw!

and repeat.

Malick Thiaw is already becoming a favourite with Newcastle United fans

It was a gradual start to life at Newcastle for Thiaw.

He arrived at St. James’ Park to a settled and quality defence waiting for him, with Fabian Schar and Dan Burn already an established partnership that remains resolute despite the duo’s age.

Yet, difficult injuries can open doors for other players and Schar’s concussion has given Thiaw an opportunity in the starting XI, which he has grasped with both hands.

Thiaw has started the last four games and has hit the ground running, putting in strong displays in the heart of defence and impressing supporters, with the travelling contingent showering him in praise after the win over Union SG.

Even though Schar is back, there’s a good chance Thiaw will be keeping his place in the side. With Howe’s knack for improving defenders, he is bound to get even better.
