With the summer transfer window about to open, Newcastle United are set to be busy.

Back in the Champions League next season, Newcastle are already being linked to what feels like hundreds of big names around the European game and beyond.

Of them all, however, James Maddison certainly stands out.

The subject of a number of failed bids last season, the England international is again being touted as a target.

Tottenham are also said to be keen and, unsurprisingly, the race looks on.

Maddison, after all, is a leading name in English football with just a year left on his contract and has just been relegated to the Championship.

Widely tipped to be leaving Leicester, competition to land him looks fierce.

Which is where the agents come in.

Indeed, according to The Chronicle, various agents are pushing alternatives to the club.

While Leicester are said to want a decision on the 26-year-old’s future quickly, progress is yet to be made and other targets are thought to be being touted by agents.

With Spurs also in the mix, it seems representatives around the world are now trying to press their respective cases to Newcastle.

Newcastle now need a resolution quickly

Maddison has been tracked for almost a year now.

With previous reports suggesting he’d prefer a move to London, it’s difficult to know where the player’s heart lies given more recent claims he’s attracted to the idea of working under Eddie Howe in the Champions League.

Though the club have made their desire clear by way of bids, a decision must soon be made. There is little time to waste in preparation for next season and the club cannot afford to have this saga drag on and on.

Alternatives must soon be in mind.
