How Newcastle feel about offering Allan Saint-Maximin a new contract

Allan Saint-Maximin has a contract with Newcastle United until 2026, and it does not look like a new deal is on the horizon any time soon.

Plenty of Newcastle players have received new contracts since the change of ownership, with the likes of Miguel Almiron and newly acquired Kieran Trippier extending their stay. There is also talk of Bruno Guimaraes getting a fresh deal.

But as better contracts are handed out and wages increase, it appears as though Saint-Maximin‘s terms are not going to change.

No new contract on the horizon for Allan Saint-Maximin

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle are in ‘no rush’ to offer the 26-year-old a new contract to extend his stay at St James’ Park.

They add that Maxi is hoping to receive a new and improved contract on Tyneside, but he is seemingly not a priority for the Toon owners right now.

There was speculation last year that Saint-Maximin was not happy about not being offered a new deal, which led to rumours of a move away.

Those rumours are continuing heading into the summer of 2023, but they come at a time when ASM is starting to impress. He has been a key player for Eddie Howe in recent weeks, until he suffered a hamstring injury ahead of the game against Brentford.

With plenty of new deals being handed out with increased wages, it is understandable why Saint-Maximin wants a slice of the pie. He has been pivotal for the Magpies ever since his arrival, but is perhaps hindered by the long-term deal he signed during Mike Ashley’s tenure.

The winger still has three more years to run on his current contract at St James’ Park.

The priority for Newcastle right now appears to be tying down Bruno Guimaraes to a longer deal. With interest from the likes of Real Madrid, the Magpies are keen to ensure that the talismanic Brazilian stays exactly where he is.

Sadly for Saint-Maximin, he has not been as impactful as Bruno has since he arrived at the club. Combine that with the six-year deal he signed in 2020 and it is understandable why Newcastle are in no rush to hand out a new contract.
