While far from a disaster, 2024 hasn’t been what Newcastle United would have wanted.
Despite returning to the Champions League in 2023, Newcastle United were eliminated in the group stages. After also failing to finish in the top four they had no European football to enjoy this past year.
Eddie Howe’s side have continued to blow hot and cold in the Premier League, usually following up impressive results with disappointing defeats.
Yet, they are going strong in the Carabao Cup and have made it to the semi-finals as they hunt for a first trophy in seventy years.
There have been a lot of goals along the way and here are the side’s top scorers across the last 12 months.

Alexander Isak – 28
It’ll come as no surprise to anyone that Alexander Isak is far and away Newcastle’s top goal scorer in 2024 but what is worrying is that he’s only one of two to reach double figures.
The Super Swede has proven time and again that he’s one of the best strikers in the Premier League and Newcastle will do well to fend off any transfer interest in him in 2025.
Anthony Gordon – 10
Many laughed at Newcastle for splashing serious cash on Anthony Gordon but the forward has really begun to realise his potential in 2024. With rapid speed, exciting skill and a clinical eye in the box, he notched 10 goals over the last 12 months and was consistently a dangerous threat.
Fabian Schar – 8
As well as being a resolute and reliable defender, Fabian Schar has contributed massively at the opposite end of the field with eight goals, including against Brentford, Liverpool, Tottenham and a brace vs Aston Villa.
Harvey Barnes – 8
Harvey Barnes has struggled for consistency in 2024 and is currently out of the starting XI, with Jacob Murphy taking his place. Yet, he has regularly found the back of the net and finishes the year as one of the side’s top goal scorers.
Bruno Guimaraes – 7
Stand-in skipper Bruno Guimaraes only got his first goal of the new campaign in December but has still wracked up seven in 2024 in total.
Sean Longstaff – 5
Despite not being a regular starter, Sean Longstaff has still chipped in with a useful five goals over the year, though all of them came last season.
Jacob Murphy – 5
It took three bites of the cherry but Murphy finally scored a fine brace against Leicester City in December for his first goals of the new season and then followed it up with a thumping drive against Ipswich Town. His other two strikes in 2024 came against Chelsea and Brentford last term.
Joelinton – 4
The all-action Joelinton grabbed three goals this year, important finishes against Southampton, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United as well as a ripper against Aston Villa in the new season, with the first half of his 2024 disrupted by injury.
Callum Wilson – 2
Callum Wilson is another player who has missed the vast majority of the year due to injuries and only managed to score twice, against Sheffield United and Burnley.
Joe Willock – 2
Joe Willock’s 2024 goals came against Nottingham Forest and his former club Arsenal.
Sandro Tonali – 2
Sandro Tonali hadn’t scored for Newcastle since August 2023 after his lengthy suspension kept him out of action for most of last season but he found his first goals of 2024 at the death and when they were needed most.
The Italian scored the opener in the Carabao Cup quarter-final win against Brentford and only had to wait 34 minutes for his next one when he volleyed in the second.
Dan Burn – 1
Given his immense height, Dan Burn should probably be scoring more goals from set pieces. He notched just a single strike this year, against Fulham in the FA Cup.
Lewis Hall – 1
You sense there are many more goals to come from Lewis Hall in a Newcastle shirt but he has only managed two so far, both against Manchester United, with just one of them coming in 2024.
Sven Botman – 1
Sven Botman has hardly played in 2024 due to an ACL injury that has kept him sidelined since March but he managed to score once on the very first day of the year in a defeat to Liverpool.
Tino Livramento – 1
Right-back Tino Livramento has just one goal for Newcastle so far, with that coming in a 3-0 win over Wolves.
Kieran Trippier – 1
Kieran Trippier has been a reliable source of a handful of goals throughout his time at Newcastle but only managed one in 2024, coming against Luton Town.
Matt Ritchie – 1
Matt Ritchie’s only goal for Newcastle in his final year at the club came against his former side Bournemouth.
