Newcastle United’s takeover has finally been completed and a new era has begun.
The long-term hope now is that the club will strive for success after years of lacking ambition.
Tino Asprilla was the big signing made in the 1990s when the club were chasing a Premier League title.
It didn’t quite work out – and winning the league is still a way off – but Asprilla has reacted to the takeover news.
The message translated to: ‘congratulations on your new take over at one of the best and most historic clubs in England.”
Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville also brought up Asprilla in the wake of the takeover.
It’s not too clear what Neville was getting at but he was perhaps hinting that Newcastle could almost get anyone now.
We don’t know what the recruitment model is now and we don’t know just how much will be made available.
That’s exciting after years of knowing exactly what you are going to get under Mike Ashley.
Asprilla, and plenty of others with Newcastle connections, reacted happily to the news and the hope of better times ahead.
