Journalist Dean Jones has shared which two Newcastle United players he thinks are more likely to leave than Bruno Guimaraes this summer.

There have been some questions raised about the future of Bruno who has attracted interest from the likes of Barcelona and PSG and many think he could be tempted with a big money move away.

However, speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones has claimed that both Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson are more likely to leave Newcastle than the Brazilian.

January interest to return for Newcastle duo

Newcastle were believed to be close to selling both Trippier and Wilson in January as the pair had attracted interest from some European clubs, though Newcastle felt the fees weren’t big enough.

Bayern Munich had shown significant interest in Trippier to solve their issues at right-back, but after tow failed bids they decided to look elsewhere as Newcastle’s demands were too high.

Likewise with Wilson, clubs like AC Milan and Atletico Madrid were looking to sign the striker in the winter window, but Newcastle again were keen to hold onto him unless there was a particularly large bid submitted.

That interest, however, could return in the summer with both players only having 12 months remaining on their contracts while Bruno is still very much in the long-term plans for Newcastle.

“They’re going to sell players. I’m just not sure that they will offload anyone like Bruno Guimaraes or Alexander Isak. I still think, if you’re looking at a senior player that will leave, it will be someone more like Kieran Trippier or Callum Wilson.

“Those types of players can be moved on and upgraded, but I don’t think that would be the plan with a player like Guimaraes or Isak because finding an upgrade on those players is very difficult.

“While Newcastle need to balance the books, the best way to do that is not to start selling your best assets. They need to find other ways around that.

“I think we will look at a rebuild of sorts in the summer for Newcastle, but I really don’t expect it to be those types of players that find themselves being moved on.”

Newcastle’s can’t afford to lose Bruno

Bruno is everything good about Newcastle, he’s what makes the whole team tick and he’s someone who cannot be replaced no matter how much money they would receive in return for him.

It’s believed that his release clause is worth around £100m, and while that would give them a lot of room to reinvest into other areas of the squad, they’d be using that money to find someone just like Bruno anyway.

It makes far more sense to keep players like Bruno and Alexander Isak and build around them while making other sellable assets available in the summer.

It may not be what some wanted to hear after what Trippier and Wilson have done for the team, but Newcastle are going to reach a point where they have to be more ruthless if they want to succeed.
