Bruno Guimaraes‘ stats are already incredibly impressive. He’s already looking worth the £40million (Sky Sports) Newcastle United paid Olympique Lyonnais. The Brazilian was once again a key player in the Magpies’ midfield against Crystal Palace.
Guimaraes played a delightful ball through to Miguel Almiron who scored a sensational strike – his first of the season. In his last two games, the 24-year-old has provided the Toon with two goals and an assist.
What’s astonishing is when you compare that to his last 20 matches at Lyon. Guimaraes only registered three assists and didn’t score in that time.
Adding goals to his game makes Guimaraes even more of a valuable asset for Newcastle
Since he arrived in January, Guimaraes has a total of three goals for Newcastle. It’s certainly a lot more than some fans were expecting. He was never known for his goal tally at Lyon.
It’s a testament to how well Eddie Howe has been able to utilise him. The fact that it’s so early into his Magpies career and he’s already added another component to his game is fantastic.
So for those who will judge Bruno Guimaraes’ stats, he’s shown what he can offer the Toon. However, he offers more than just his goal contributions. The midfielder has tremendous vision and dominates in the middle of the park. Furthermore, he’s one of the top passers on the pitch and always has a high pass accuracy rate.
These factors have led to him catching the eye and getting Man of the Match performances against the likes of Wolves.
Newcastle takes on Norwich in their next match, away from home. They’re currently bottom of the league, so Newcastle will be hoping they can win four on the bounce. It’ll be another opportunity for Guimaraes to show what he’s capable of in midfield as the Toon hunt for a spot in the top half.
