Newcastle United fans are filling the streets of the city as they await the Carabao Cup trophy celebrations.

Fans haven’t seen an event as significant as this since Joe Harvey’s Newcastle United side won the Fairs Cup in 1969.

There were several decades of misery on Tyneside before Eddie Howe’s black and white army lifted the Carabao Cup at Wembley Stadium – a first domestic honour since 1955.

On Saturday, the party of all parties is taking place on Tyneside, with an all-day event happening on the Town Moor while an open-top bus parade will take the Newcastle players through the city before they hit centre stage in front of thousands of passionate fans who will have been waiting all day to see them.

The Magpies will be joined by the likes of Ant and Dec, Pete Graves and Lynsey Hipgrave at the event as well as a few Newcastle legends. Alan Shearer will be on stage with Les Ferdinand, Bob Moncur and Becky Langley’s Newcastle women’s team.

With fans eager to see the team in the flesh, a big prediction has been made in regards to just how many people there are in attendance.

How many Newcastle fans are at the Town Moor celebration

There were rumours earlier in the week that Sam Fender could be in Newcastle to perform at the event. However, fans will be sad to see that Fender was not on Newcastle’s official itinerary for Saturday’s festivities.

Either way, the event is set to be a special one, with a sensational evening in store which will include Sela’s ‘Special Surprise’ for fans.

Initial murmers suggested that there was set to be around 150,000 Newcastle fans on the Town Moor for the event. However, Keith Downie of Sky Sports News has now suggested that there could be significantly more fans than first believed.

“There will be 150 thousand Newcastle fans waiting to celebrate with them,.” Downie said.

“In addition to that, I reckon another 100 thousand on the streets.

“I know you said 100 thousand Newcastle fans, I think it will be more like a quarter of a million, which will be amazing scenes all throughout the city.”

A sea of black and white for Newcastle United celebrations

The parade and Town Moor event is truly a one-of-a-kind spectacle for Newcastle fans, one which most fans will have never seen the like of before.

Newcastle’s social media account told fans to get to St James’ Park early to ensure they caught the bus leaving the ground before embarking on its journey around the city.

Downie’s attendance prediction is a sign of how desperate fans have been to see their team win a trophy. They can bask in all the glory on Saturday, knowing that Howe’s side has finally brought something back to Tyneside.

The fans have already been seen enjoying he occasion as well – Ant and Dec were mobbed by Newcastle fans outside the stadium when they arrived.

One fan even managed to get a chuckle out of the pair, who looked in high spirits, when they asked, “what do you think of Sunderland?”
