Alan Shearer was the main man at Newcastle United for the entirety of his Toon career.
He arrived as the most expensive signing in world football, and he left as Newcastle United’s all-time leading goalscorer.
Having captained the club from 1999 until the day he left and scored 206 goals, Alan Shearer is arguably the biggest Newcastle United legend going. That is why he is immortalised with a statue outside of St James’ Park.
Shearer is a man who commanded respect at Newcastle United, and he certainly did not like it when a 17-year-old Dutchman showed him up at the training ground.

How Tim Krul angered Alan Shearer during Newcastle United training
That is exactly what happened with Tim Krul, who joined the Magpies as a teenager in 2005.
At the age of 17, Krul was tasked with helping Shearer practise his penalties in training. During an appearance on Ben Foster’s podcast, the goalkeeper has explained how he ended up infuriating the Geordie hero by saving his efforts from 12 yards.
“When I signed as a 17-year-old, he was still playing,” he said.
“He wanted me every Friday for five penalties. So I was a 17-year-old, Alan Shearer, five penalties every Friday.
“After a while I started reading his penalties, because he only had one corner. He wasn’t happy, because I gambled early and started saving a few. He wasn’t having it and proper gave me a lot of stick.
“But what an experience.”
Tim Krul linked with Newcastle United return
Now aged 37, Krul has been tentatively linked with returning to his former club.
With Newcastle United back in the Champions League, there is suddenly a need for the club to have homegrown players who have come through their academy. Krul falls into that category, having been with the Magpies from such a young age.
Newcastle have looked at signing Krul, but talk of him joining Eddie Howe’s squad has gone very quiet since those initial rumours in early June.
The veteran goalkeeper is currently available, with Krul becoming a free agent after his Luton Town contract expired.
