Santiago Munoz has finally been pictured in a Newcastle shirt ahead of his potential Magpies debut.

Newcastle’s Under-23s are set to face Middlesbrough tonight, and Munoz is in contention to make his first appearance. Fans will be able to watch the game on the club’s official YouTube channel or on NUFC TV.

Ahead of the game, Munoz has sent a message to Toon fans on Twitter.

He wrote: “The dream begins! I am truly honoured to join this great team. Toon Army, I’ll make you proud!”

The first three words are surely a nod to the first ‘Goal!’ film, which is the reason why this transfer has hit the headlines.

But while Munoz’s name is almost identical to the lead character from ‘Goal!’, the 19-year-old will be hoping to carve out his own legacy in a black and white shirt.

The forward has also confirmed what shirt number he will wear at St James’ Park.

Munoz is holding a jersey with the number 30 on it, which recently became available following Christian Atsu’s departure.

Sadly, it’s not the same number that Munez wore in the film. The fictional character was Newcastle’s number 26, but that shirt is currently occupied by Karl Darlow.

While the number 30 is hardly famous at Newcastle, it’s at least a number you would associate with the first-team. So perhaps the club have aspirations of seeing Munoz in the Premier League sooner rather than later.

That may just be fantasy, but it is exciting to see how the young striker does at Newcastle. He could make his debut this evening, and here’s hoping he hits the ground running.
