Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to reveal their scepticism regarding a report from The Daily Mail, which states that Allan Saint-Maximin is set to be offered a new six-year contract.

The Frenchman posted a cryptic tweet on Wednesday morning, which showed just a single egg-timer emoji which hinted that an announcement was imminent.

The Daily Mail’s report states that the former OGC Nice forward was looking for improved terms on the six-year deal he signed last summer, when he arrived at St James’ Park in a £16.5 million move from the aforementioned Ligue 1 side.

Saint-Maximin’s wages will be increased to put him in line with the Magpies’ highest earners, to represent his importance to Steve Bruce.

The 23-year-old scored and got an assist in Newcastle’s last outing before the international break, delivering a Man of the Match display in a 3-1 win over Burnley.

Interestingly, The Daily Mail mention that this contract offer is a move that will delight supporters.

However, the tweets below represent the exact opposite emotion. Instead, some Newcastle fans on Twitter have expressed their scepticism regarding this news.

The St James’ Park faithful are no strangers to losing cult heroes.

The likes of Demba Ba and Yohan Cabaye have departed under Mike Ashley’s reign, and some supporters think Saint-Maximin’s new deal is just a way of getting the best possible deal for him when he’s sold.
