“What about Harry Kane?” That’s the question former Newcastle player Darren Ambrose asked on TalkSPORT when discussing possible Toon transfers.
The rumour mill has gone crazy ever since the Saudi-backed takeover was completed. Ridiculous names are being linked with a move to St James’ Park pretty much every hour.
There have been some sensible transfer stories. Reports of moves for Jesse Lingard and James Tarkowski would certainly be sensible.
But there are other rumours that are just nonsense.
Now TalkSPORT have gone one further, and are debating a possible transfer rumour that doesn’t even exist. In the clip below, Ambrose, Darren Bent and presenter Rory Jennings discuss whether Kane could join Newcastle United next summer.
Could Harry Kane join Newcastle?! No
Newcastle United might be the richest club in the world, but they are still 19th in the Premier League.
They do not compete in the Champions League or the Europa League. They are battling to avoid relegation to the Championship.
While their survival fight might be a bit easier now there will be money to spend in January, it doesn’t mean Newcastle are immediately going to become a powerhouse.
The Magpies might have the money to afford to Harry Kane, but that doesn’t mean it’ll happen. There’s no way he’d want to come. And it doesn’t seem like the owners are going to take that kind of approach anyway.
Newcastle fans are buzzing to have new owners, but they are not expecting the world.
This kind of chat from the mainstream media is laughable, and it’s only going to get worse.
In a few years, Newcastle might be able to sign players of this calibre. But right now they’ve got no chance. To even debate it is ridiculous.
